This is how our farewell went on
February 26, 2014, Mancherial: The town’s most famous school, Carmel Convent High School, held the farewell of their students of class X (CBSE) and organized by their underclassmen. Most of the students who had assembled at the school in their best apparel decided to begin the event with a prayer in the school’s church. Following that, they ventured out to meet with and seek the best wishes of the teachers. Later, a cake was cut to commemorate the last event in these students’ lives together as a class. Cue to the miserable formalities, everyone ended up with smeared cake frosting on their faces. After washing off cake and cursing the boys who were responsible for the cake-smearing to eternal damnation, everyone headed off to the school’s playground behind the campus where a podium was set up under a tent. Bhavishya and Enaiya, students of class IX, anchored the event with gusto and joy. Sheila, another student, read out thirty quotes from the bible thrice each, which were to be repeated by the audience, consisting of students, teachers, and sisters verbatim. The singers of class X put together a little song on the podium which touched everyone’s hearts. The singers themselves were brimming with emotions and sentiments of love as many of them shed tears onstage. Following this, the students of ninth put up synchronized dances. Mr Joy, the English and Social Studies teacher, gave a short speech in which he expressed his opinion on the significance of this event for both students and parents alike. The boys of class X took the opportunity of sympathy from the teachers to dance with frenzy onstage till the point they were kicked offstage. Afshan and Shivani, students of class X, gave a short speech on behalf of the rest of the class, thanking everyone for the beautiful programme. The aayammas of the school were appreciated with tokens of love and the students of class X were awarded with pens, encrusted with good wishes for their exams. Lunch was catered by local restaurant Surabhi. Everyone proceeded to feed the other with their hands as a symbol of fraternity and love. Lunch ended with ice-cream for everyone. Everyone took shade from the blistering heat outside to the classrooms, where they comforted and consoled each other. Slam books were passed around eagerly, and the students of class X were to clear their dues from the library, computer and science labs, before going into the Principal’s office to receive their hall-ticket and registration cards. Students spent the rest of the time taking photographs, chatting, laughing with people they otherwise wouldn’t even turn to look at, aware that this was the last day of their school.
